How to Charge your Mobility Scooter

HOW TO: Charge your Mobility Scooter

Quick Tips from Mobility 1st

At Mobility 1st, we often get asked for the best practices for charging, so we’ve put together this simple guide, inspired by our own Service Manager, Mike, to ensure your scooter’s battery stays healthy and ready for your next adventure.

General Rule of Thumb: Don’t Let It Sit Empty!

While it’s always recommended to fully charge your scooter before any long trip, it’s also good practice to let the battery drain down a little bit before recharging. You don’t need to let it go completely dead; even a short trip to the end of the driveway and back is enough to condition the battery.

Step-by-Step Guide to Charging Your Scooter

Charging your scooter is a straightforward process. Just follow these steps to ensure a safe and proper charge every time:

  1. Find Your Port: Locate the charger and the corresponding three-pin port on your scooter. This port is usually found on the tiller, right underneath the steering column.

  2. Plug into the Scooter First: Always plug the charger into the scooter’s port first. This is a crucial safety step to ensure the connection is secure before plugging into a power source.

  3. Plug into the Wall: Next, take the other end of your charger and plug it into a standard wall outlet.

  4. Read the Lights: Once plugged in, your charger will likely have indicator lights.

    • One light typically indicates that the charger has power.

    • Another light will show the charging status. A red light usually means the battery is charging, and it will turn green when the battery is fully charged.

  5. Unplug When Done: The charger is designed to turn off automatically when the battery is full, preventing overcharging. Once the light turns green, your scooter is ready to be unplugged and used!

A Final, Important Tip

Every scooter and every charger is a little different, so it’s always a good idea to read your owner’s manual to understand exactly what the indicator lights mean for your specific model.

Proper charging is the best way to extend the life of your scooter’s battery and ensure it’s always ready to go. If you have any questions or need a helping hand, the service team at Mobility 1st is here for you!
